]]> Wedding Dance Lessons Manhattan Couple Ballroom Dancing HustleAs the weather gets warmer, our calendars fill with many social dancing opportunities. Will you be dancing with your son or daughter at his/her wedding this summer, maybe you’ll be connecting with friends at your High School or College Reunion?

Dancing is a great way to get these parties started on the right foot and enjoy your special occasion.

Here are a few tips for dancing at your next summer social gathering.

1. Ask the DJ or Band early in the evening for songs that you like to dance to.

The earlier you ask the easier is is for the entertainer to fit your request in at the right time. A Fox Trot is great during dinner but may not be appropriate during the open dancing portion of the evening. While a Swing, Hustle or Cha Cha will fit nicely into most any dance set of music.

2. Dance with social style.

Remember in social settings like weddings, reunions and parties to dance using social styling. Your competition dance routine is inappropriate for these type of events.

Chances are that after seeing you dance, your friends or other guests will compliment you or ask you to dance. This is a great opportunity to share the joys of ballroom dancing with more people. If you ask someone to dance remember to keep it simple and fun. They will have a great time dancing with you and you will make them feel really good.

4. Dress for hot looks and hot weather.

Looking good and staying cool on the dance floor is easy with a little preparation time. Your celebration may not be air conditioned and have nice hardwood dance floor like our beautiful Arthur Murray dance centers. Now is a good time to look through your wardrobe for classy short sleeved dress shirts for the men and sleeveless gowns for the women. You may also want to bring a pair of back up dance shoes that are suitable for other surfaces besides wood.

If you have not been in for a dance lesson in a little while, maybe now is a good time to freshen up? Or maybe you have a friend who is attending one of these memorable occasions? Either way we would love to see you, so come on in and dance with us!

]]> This is it! One more week until the biggest ballroom dance competition in history, the World Dance-O-Rama in NYC. Here are some helpful hints to head into the weekend with a confidant perspective.

1. Double check your travel and competition schedules.
Timing is as important in life as it is in dancing. Remember to schedule time for packing, travel, eating well and resting after the weekend of fun. Take a few minutes this week to review when the practice times and locations are for your category of dancing at the hotel. Of course you will want to schedule plenty of time to dress up, visit with family and friends and breath before your competition. After the competition you will probably want to rest, eat and relax in the hotel jacuzzi! Go ahead you deserve it.

2. Put your personality and style into your dance performance.
Now that you have all of the moves and technique it’s time to add your smile and personality into your dance performance. As you know from Dancing with the Stars, telling the emotional story of the dance with your facial expressions and arm gestures is very important to the judges.

3. Watch video from your dress rehearsal.
Watching yourself in the mirror while dancing and getting feedback from your dance teacher are very helpful. Seeing yourself on video is another great way to internalize your moves and see where you would like to improve. Don’t try to dance along with the video. Simply be present and take in what you see so you can focus on what you like and what you would like to improve on.

4. Invite your friends and family to the competition for support.
You are on the home court at every Arthur Murray dance event and you will feel even more comfortable with your friends and family cheering you on. Friends and family are also very helpful with last minute costume changes and running out for a glass of water or a snack. If they are not able to attend the competition they can watch the live video stream from the event online.
